A Report On The Translation Of Adverbial Clauses In The Exposition

Study of Child Life,an exposition about education.This text is an excerpt from the preface and one of 15 chapters,Chapter 2 Faults and Remedies in the source text.The author mainly focuses on the topic of the self-growth and self-life of children for this part,some common exposition methods are applied into the text.At the beginning of the source text,the author first describes that children have a large number of bad habits,then introducing and illustrating the causes of existing bad habits in details,which are formed through many years;what’s more,lots of opinions and rules are put forward by himself for the solutions to these faults;finally,pragmatic suggestions and methods are given to keep and cultivate a good habit for children.Thus,according to the above questions and the following answers,the author summarizes the faults and remedies to make readers benefit from the solutions and recheck their behaviors.In source text,the author uses a great number of flexible syntactical structures to avoid the singleness and repetition of sentences,the adverbial clause is one of them.Adverbial clauses are made up of nine adverbial clauses basically,like adverbial clause of time,place,method,purpose,cause and concession etc.Due to the flexibility of the sentence order of adverbial clauses,different habits of language expression in Chinese and English and the special syntactical structure of adverbial clauses,this text also enumerates,analyzes some cases and reconstructs the sentences from two points,the external factors and the internal factors,further discussing the sentence order.The external factors generally consist of five methods,for example,preposition,postposition,separation,fusion and conversion;the internal factors are analyzed with two aspects,the language expression of Chinese and English and the logical deduction of the context.However,this text focuses on researching thesyntactical structure and the sentence order of different adverbial clause of condition,concession,cause and time principally by five methods and two points.Besides this,the translator mentions Study of Child Life belongs to an exposition,which narrates something,illuminates facts and reasons and brings people much knowledge.For one thing,based on the sentence order of adverbial clauses,this text elaborates the cases deeply through different adverbs implying the time,cause,condition,concession and purpose;for another thing,this text further studies the syntactical structure of adverbial clauses by the characters as well as functions of an exposition,which is the key that the author would like to present in the source text.The following text can be shown and researched better through the connection of two powers---the characters of the exposition and adverbial clauses.
