This thesis is devoted to the corpus-based study on Concessive Adverbial Clauses in Maritime Engineering English (MEE). Three subcategories of concessive adverbial clauses are distinguished, namely, Adverbial Clauses of Concession, Alternative Conditional-concessive Clauses and Universal Conditional-concessive Clauses. The distributions of different concessive clauses and subordinators utilized in MEE are analyzed and compared with that in the other corpora, which are MTE, NEC, T4, BROWNA and LOBA. Other features concerned are also discussed. The use of concessive adverbial clauses mostly complies with previous theories, while such clauses do have certain features in MEE.
