| This study takes the perspective of psychobiography, relying on the interview method to form the Chinese father of optical fiber, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Zhao’s life story, and using "life-story identity model" as the analysis framework to interpret Zhao’s life story by two studies. Finding that Zhao’s pride is a hubristic pride, and explaining it from the functional view.For the preparation of the story of life, first of all, summarizing the formation to a list of events from the interview verbatim; Secondly, in accordance with the "highlight"indicators and "growth of key factors" to list the contents of the list; At last, organizing these events into a complete life story.Through the analysis of the "thematic line" and "nuclear episodes", the study one finds that Zhao’s life story is the theme of Agency, it means that Self-growth, achievement and access to power are his main concerns. The nuclear episodes under this theme exhibits a specific pattern: with the case of being suspected and not recognized as Beginning, to show his ability for the development, of the final victory over the higher status of competitors for the end. For the achievements, Zhao show the pride in both a reasonable composition and excessive tendencies. Through the "proud process of attribution theory",demonstrated Zhao’s pride is the emotional traits of hubristic pride.The study two analysis the "ideological setting" and "imagoes", it’s found that Zhao tends to hold the idea of skepticism and competition in society and interpersonal relationships. Accordingly extracting the two main imagoes of "little child" and "world champion". The physical self is the formation of "little child" imagoes of the important psychological source; family attention and expectations, teachers trust and encouragement are the source of the formation to "world champion" imagoes.Zhao’s self-oriented characteristics, in the 60’s Chinese social context, easy to suffer doubt and suppress, and simultaneously triggering his "little child" self-image highlights.Zhao’s Hubristic Pride has its special function, that is, to promote changing the "child" to"world champion", then get a strong driving force, and ultimately win the Chinese father of optical fiber position. |
