With the gradually deepening of the opening-up and reform policy, Chinese nowadays are very eager to know the world. Since a large amount of information is transmitted by means of news, especially English news reports, the importance of English news translation has reached a record high.Among news forms, feature story is not only a more and more popular form of news report but also an important source for inter-cultural communication. However, there are still many problems remaining in feature story translation. In the hope of improving this unsatisfactory situation, this translation report studies the translation of feature story, with the 2013 Feature Writing Pulitzer Prize Winners Snow Fall as an example. In this report, the translator analyzes the linguistic characteristics of feature story, concerned mainly with the translation problems at lexical and sentence levels.During the translation process, the translator found out that using Ernst-August Gutt’s relevance theory of translation as the guiding theory for translation, together with Eugene A. Nida’s dynamic equivalence theory as well as the translation strategies such as domestication and foreignization, can effectively minimize the Chinese readers’ processing efforts and maximize their cognitive effect. Hopefully, this translation report will shed light on and so have practical implications for the future translation of feature stories.
