| The 21st century is a century of the sea. With its prosperous development in the field of shipbuilding and oceanography engineering, China will be integrated with the world more widely. As a necessary tool, English for shipbuilding engineering is urged to be mastered by anyone who is or will be engaged in the field of shipbuilding and oceanography engineering,which is acknowledged by more and more young workers. Thus, it is practical to analyze the translation of English for shipbuilding engineering.With the special reference to the examples of "Specialized English for Shipbuilding Engineering"(chapter 4 and 5),this thesis illustrates the translation strategies of English for shipbuilding engineering from the perspective of Skopos Theory. It consists of six parts. First of all, it states the background, the significance as well as the process of the study. Based on examples, the second part focuses on the characteristics of English for shipbuilding engineering, including vocabularies, sentence structures and special forms. Then the three translation principles under the guidance of Skopos Theory, namely skopos rule, fidelity rule and coherence rule are introduced, and the rules provide theoretical support for the translation of English for shipbuilding engineering. The forth part is about the common translation strategies, such as literal translation, amplification, conversion and repetition etc and specific methods to translate terms,complicated sentences and graphics or charts,with which we can get better translation of English for shipbuilding engineering. They are aimed to benefit the persons who are engaged in the field of shipbuilding and oceanography engineering. The last part is the summary and the blueprint of the translation of English for shipbuilding engineering in the future. |
