A Report On The Translation Of "Folk Culture" Of Shangsi’s Stories

Recent years,with several sessions of China-ASEAN Expo and many international exhibitions,competitions and conferences being held successfully in Guangxi,Guangxi has gained increasing attentions from the world.To build a better Guangxi image and attract investments and foreign visitors,Guangxi needs to strengthen efforts to promote Guangxi’s folk culture.Hence,the translation of Part Seven of Shangsi’s stories is the focus of the author.Shangsi’s stories gives an all-round introduction to Shangsi County of Guangxi,mainly covering geographical location,sceneries,festivals,folk customs,foods and so on.And Part Seven is mainly about the folk customs with rich local characteristics of Shangsi County.The translation of this part will play a great role in promoting foreign friends’ further understanding of Guangxi and enhancing cultural and economic communication between China and other countries.This report consists of four parts.Part one is an introduction to thetranslation task,the analysis of source text as well as target readers analysis.The second part gives detailed descriptions on the author’s pre-translation work,work during the translation process and post-translation,which includes proof-reading,revision and the like.In the third part,the author analyzes some typical cases at the lexical level,syntactic level and textual level under the guidance of the Skopos Theory.Major findings and limitations are presented in the last part.Guided by the Skopos Theory,the author has completed the translation task in hope to make some contribution to promoting Shangsi’s local ethnic culture to the outside world and gain some practical experience to improve the author’s translation experience.It is also hoped that the translation strategies employed in this report can be of some help for other translators who are engaged in similar translation task.
