Intermediate Chinese learners face the difficulty of effectively enlarging their vocabulary after reaching the bottleneck of vocabulary learning.The Schema Theory in cognitive psychology may perform important instructional function in the vocabulary teaching of teaching Chinese as a second language at an intermediate level.Schema refers to the way in which knowledge is stored in mind.Schema Theory is a cognitive theory on how human knowledge is represented,classified and effectively utilized.The author of the thesis serves ten junior exchange students in sinology from Free University of Berlin as teaching objects,Lesson 1 to 10 of "Developing Chinese Intermediate Comprehensive Course ?" as textbook and discusses the intermediate German-oriented Chinese vocabulary teaching under the guidance of Schema Theory in the light of teaching practice,literature research and the linguistic feature of German language.The thesis first develops an idea of the learning situation of the German Chinese learners of intermediate level in terms of learning strategies and inter-lingual errors and then discusses the application of Schema Theory in the methods of context,induction and comparison.Furthermore,the thesis abstracts and summarizes the instructional value of Schema Theory in the conceptional and methodological practice of the intermediate German-oriented Chinese vocabulary teaching from the three aspects of the activation and consolidation of the language schema,of the classification of the schema-based lexicon and the application of the morpheme,and of the comparative analysis of the Chinese semantic relations and the German-Chinese lexical similarities.
