Analysis And Teaching Design For Foreign Learners Of The Lián Sentence Based On The Construction-Chunk Theory

This paper conducts a survey on the teaching status of the Lián sentence in teaching Chinese as a second language which includes three aspects: the syllabus,textbooks and classroom teaching.Considering the difficulties in teaching the Lián sentence,the article analyzes the Lián sentence from the perspective of the Construction-Chunk Theory and regards the Lián sentence as a construction.Taking the Idealized Cognitive Model(ICM)as the criteria to judge the reasonable value of the event expressed in the Lián sentence,the article reveals that Lián sentence expresses subjective comments on low-reasonable-valued event.Both the meaning and the form of the Lián construction are not strictly predictable from its components or the knowledge of other constructions existing in Chinese language.This paper does a qualitative study on the structure “Lián...D?u/Y?...” and comes to a conclusion: It's a construction marking frame of low-reasonable-valued event.The analysis of the Lián sentence is based on the collected authentic material from corpus.Analyzing the semantic and pragmatic features of the overall Lián sentence in the actual context,the article makes a classification of the Lián sentence which includes three subordinate constructions: the compare-analogy construction;the counter-regulation construction;the set-off construction.Having an overall understanding of the meaning of the Lián sentence,this paper analyzes the semantic configuration of the three subordinate constructions and generalizes the chunk chain of each construction.The chunk chain of the compare-analogy construction: Lián—the element of the compared event—D?u/Y?—the core of the compared event.The chunk chain of the counter-regulation construction: Lián—the object of the regulation—D?u/Y?—the way of violating the regulation.The chunk chain of the set-off construction: Lián—the set-off—D?u/Y?—the core of the set-off event.Performing a statistical analysis of the three subordinate constructions by the corpus-based approach,this paper analyzes the prototype of the Lián sentence and comes to a conclusion: The usage frequency of the compare-analogy construction is thehighest of the three,then comes to the counter-regulation construction,the usage frequency of the set-off construction is the lowest.So the prototype of the compare-analogy construction is the highest,then comes to the counter-regulation construction,the prototype of the set-off construction is the lowest.This conclusion is also verified by the research achievement of the grammaticalization of the character Lián.The study can be a basis of stratified teaching of the Lián sentence in teaching Chinese as a second language.Accordingly,the stratified teaching design of the Lián sentence in Chapter Four based on the Construction-Chunk Approach is willingly to be a new perspective of teaching the Lián sentence in teaching Chinese as a second language.
