The report focuses on describing the translation process of chapter 9 and 10 from Developing a Comprehensive Faculty Evaluation System (third edition, 2007), by Raoul A. Arreola, professor of the university of Tennessee Health Science Center. So far Chinese version of this book has not been published yet in China.Based on Newmark’s translation typology, through analyzing features of the source text, the translator applies both semantic translation strategy and communicative translation strategy in the translation. During the translation process, a large number of problems have been solved by the translator,including the translation of terns, titles, proper nouns, long and difficult sentences, etc.. Details will be presented in chapter 3 of how those problems are finally solved by giving concrete examples.Through this translation practice, the translator has fully recognized that Newmark’s translation typology and semantic translation strategy, communicative translation strategy (the latter in particular) have great guidance for translating informative texts.
