Nowadays,science and technology has become a strong support for the rapid development of politics,economy,culture and other aspects.As an important way for people to know and learn the latest science and technology in the world,the translation of English for science and technology(EST)text has become increasingly important.Therefore,how to choose the translation theory which is of guiding significance to the translation practice of EST text is drawing more attention.What’s more,with the rapid development of the Internet,new problems and challenges have emerged in traditional politics,economy and Internet governance structures.Therefore,the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers(ICANN)published the report of Root Server System Advisory Committee(RSSAC)in 2019,aiming to establish a more transparent,stable and sustainable governance model for the root server system,so as to maintain the governance system of international cyberspace.This translation report,guided by Peter Newmark’s translation theory,selects parts of the RSSAC Report translated by the author during the internship in China Academy of Information and Communication Technology(CAICT)as the research text,aiming to explore translation strategies and methods in the translation of EST text.This report makes a brief introduction of the translation project firstly,and then gives a brief overview of Newmark’s translation theory.Next,the cases are analyzed from three levels of lexis,syntax and text,and specific requirements on translation quality are proposed based on this analysis.In the last part,the author analyzes the difficulties encountered in the process of translation practice,puts forward solutions and suggestions,and makes a summary of this translation practice.
