This report, which is based on the translation of part of the book entitled Brief Guide to Music, aims to give a detailed description of the translation process and translation methods.Firstly, this report makes a brief sketch of this project. Then it describes the Skopos theory employed in the translation practice. After that,it demonstrates the three translation processes and analyses the difficulties confronted and translation methods used in some cases. Finally, the author summarized some reflections on this translation practice.Unlike the other text, this text belongs to musical literature;its language is refined and rich in music terms while the writing style is formal. In view of the literariness and historicity of music literature, the author sets the standards for this translation as faithful, subjective and elegant. The author selects Preface, the Baroque Era and personalities of Bach from the book as the source text. The whole report consists of task introduction, process description, case analysis and conclusion.Case analysis, which presents translation ideas combined with some translation methods employed,is the core part of the practice analysis while the reflection as the essence of this report explains personal achievements and inspirations drawn from this practice and make suggestions for the music literature translation.
