This thesis combines theoretical analysis and empirical study to explore the effect of "deverbalization"in note-taking on Chinese-English consecutive interpretation.This thesis first gives a brief overview of the full text,and then introduces research results related to note taking and "deverbalization" both at home and abroad.The theoretical basis is "deverbalization categories" proposed by Setton and Motta,note-taking rules put forward by Liu Minhua's in Consecutive Interpreting and Note-taking and "Deverbalization" of the Interpretive Theory.There are four main deverbalization categories according to Setton and Motta,and the following analysis will be based on such categories.According to the Interpretive Theory,"deverbalization" conforms to the rule of being faithful to the original speech.Utilizing this skill can help interpreters understand true meaning and improve interpretation quality.This skill can also be applied to note-taking.Liu Minhua mentions in Consecutive Interpreting and Note-taking that using "deverbalization"actively and effectively can avoid the problems of unclear logic and misunderstanding of original speech,etc..After theory introduction,this thesis will analyze the experiment results according to "deverbalization" categories to explore the effect of "deverbalization" in note-taking on Chinese-English consecutive interpretation.The experiment material is a speech entitled How to Nurture Talent of Innovation and Entrepreneurship delivered by Zamia Awan,Professor of National University of Science and Technology in Pakistan.Eight students from GSTI were invited to participate in this experiment.They all have one-year training of note-taking and consecutive interpretation.After analysis,the author can conclude that better use of "deverbalization" in note-taking in consecutive interpretation can effectively increase interpretation quality.
