Analyze The Piano Music?Pi Huang?by ZhangZhao

The piano music Pi Huang,composed by Zhang Chao,a unique master piece for a decade in China,won Palatino Champion in 2007.Blending Beijing Opera elements with his distinctive music thought,it not only shows innovative creation but has rich Chinese national characteristics.Taking Pi Huang as example,this paper compares the rhythms and beats of Chinese plate frames and that of modern music theory,and sort out the history of Chinese pentatonic scale according to the mode and tonality.Typical phases with elements of Beijing Opera are chosen to be analyzed in terms of tunes,scenes,grace notes,arpeggios and vibratos.
