Dialect Words Research In Mo Yan’s Novels

As one of the most famous local native writers in our country,Mo Yan has successfully created his own literary world and also presented “Gaomi Northeast Township” in front of the world.The skillful dialect use in his novels not only reflects his attitude as a normal person but also shows the native style.Mo flexibly applies native dialect into the colorful literary world,and is good at portraying various folk landscapes,for readers,with regional lifestyle features,by extracting characteristic language phenomenon from dialect.With Mo’s novels’ dialect being research object,this paper comprehensively gathers the dialects in the 14 current published works of Mo.His novels’ dialects were classified and instructed respectively from the semantic perspective.The appropriate use of dialect words makes great contributions to Mo’s personal language style and creating unique aesthetic effect.So the dialect words’ contributions to his works were mainly discussed.On the one hand,they can help readers understand dialect word and its character;on the other hand,it’s beneficial to understand the linguistic value of Mo’s using dialect in his novels.This research includes 6 parts.Part 1,the introduction,generally describes the study of the use of dialect in literary works and the current status of research on Mo’s novels ’ language.Based on previous results,ideas,object and methods of this research are instructed in this part.Part 2 first sets a definition of dialect and describes this research’s basis and principle of how to choose dialect words;then the dialects in Mo’s works are classified into 25 categories by their meaning and actual situation,and each category is explained with listed example sentences,then the feature of Mo’s dialect is analyzed from two aspects of word formation and word semantics.As for part 3,the idioms with apparent characteristic of dialects are accounted in categories,and its distribution and reference are summarized,then the sources of some idioms arepreliminarily discussed,as possible as comprehensive and detailed.Next,part 4,studies the necessity and possibility of using dialect words in Mo’s writing,then the specific appearance way of dialect words in Mo’s works are outlined,and the language strategy is summarized,which is applied by Mo,considering the reader’s degree of acceptance.Part 5 analyzed the performance function of dialect words in novels,in combination with the importance of vernacular writing,which is mainly presented in five aspects,such as caring for the individual life and showing regional culture to readers.The final part is the summary of the full text,in which the conclusion of this research and its weaknesses are summarized,and the direction of future efforts are pointed out.
