Abstract/Summary:
This report aims to study the relevance between information density and interpreting performance.Ten MTI students divided into two groups from Sichuan International Studies University are involved in the contrast experiment with variables in each different group with the aim to study the relevance between the information density of the source language and the interpreter’s performance. The author hopes to to shed light on interpreter education and training and contribute to interpreting study and research through this experiment. The final results indicates that the relation between information density and interpreting performance is not a linear one but a complex one: Interpreting performance tends to decline when interpreters process the source language with semantic memory, while it tends to improve when interpreters process the source language with episodic memory. Therefore,it is advised that interpreters improve their performance with correct memory training and coping tactic training.
