| Speech errors and self-repairs are nothing uncommon in our daily life. For years, research on self-repair have been conducted in fields of psycholinguistics, cognitive linguistics, and neuro-linguistics.In recent years, studies on self-repair have extended into the area of interpreting.Based on Levelt and Postma’s classification of self-repair,this thesis endeavors to explore the correlation between density of technical information and self-repairs made by trainee interpreters in E-C Consecutive Interpreting.Research strategies such as experimental studies and stimulated recall interviews were applied to enhance the objectiveness and effectiveness of the research. The research findings are:1.Trainee interpreters made three types of self-repair(A-repair,E-repair and D-repair)among which the most common one is D-repair.2.The density of technical information of the source text is positively correlated with the number of self-repairs made by trainee interpreters.3.The reason behind this correlation is that technical information calls for greater energy to process. In conclusion, trainee interpreters attach greater importance to ST-TT consistency than to appropriateness. As a result, they made more D-repairs than other types of self-repair.Besides,high density of technical information is energy-consuming.Therefore,when facing this scenario, interpreters often do not have enough energy to organize his/her language, produce a fluent target text,or listen to other information which triggers more self-repairs. |
