This is a project report on the translation of the third chapter of “A Comparative Analysis of Higher Education Systems” edited by Michael Kariwo,Tatiana Gounk and Musembi Nungu.The chapter,“The Impact of Zimbabwean Higher Education Policies on Access” is written by Michael Kariwo,who is an education professor of University of Alberta in Edmonton,Alberta,Canada.A Comparative Analysis of Higher Education Systems introduces higher education systems of seven countries and explores the problems and solutions in detail.The translation of this book would be an ideal reader for Chinese education officials,researchers,scholars and readers.This translation report is divided into five parts: Chapter One is the description of the translation project,which addresses the background,significance and structure of the translation project.Chapter Two gives an account of the author,the publishing facts,contents and linguistic features of the source text.Chapter Three presents the theoretical and professional preparation.To guide her practice,the translator employed adaptation theory proposed by Vershueren.To adapt the English text to its Chinese readership,the translator used translation methods to make the foreign features of the SL text accommodate the Chinese linguistic and cultural conventions to achieve successful communication.Chapter Four analyzes the translation difficulties encountered and solutions that the translator adopted in the process of translation.The last chapter is a summary of the lessons gained and problems to be solved.
