This paper is a report on translation practice, and the source text is three short stories which are excerpted from Stories From Suburban Road by T.A.G.Hungerford.These stories told us many interesting things which included the deep relationship between the cow Biddy and the whole family;the author helped his father recover debts and did some recreational activities in his spare time;when the author was young,he learned riding a horse from Rudolf, and he also played a woomera with his new black friends. This report on translation practice is based on the theory of “Functional Equivalence”,which was put forwarded by the famous American linguist, translation theorist Eugene A· Nida.Combining with the practical translation techniques,it tries to get the target readers had the similar feelings in understanding and appreciation of translation just as the ordinary readers, and it also tries to achieve equivalence in content and style of writing. This report mainly focuses on the treatment of cultural words, long sentences. In the whole process of translation practice, the translator realizes the theoretical significance of functional equivalence in E-C translation, masters the relevant translation skills, accumulates some experience in translation.
