Time is one of the three major weekly magazines in America with a wide range of contents,ideas on international issues and tracking reports on international events.It covers kinds of topics including economy,politics,military affairs and culture.Currently,the biggest international issue is ISIS terrorist attack.Time publishes serial articles on ISIS and analyzes the behavior,aims along with influences from various aspects and angles.In the translation process,long sentences are the major difficulty for the author.So this translation report is based on the translation of serial articles on ISIS in Time and analyze how to deal with long sentences.Functional equivalence theory is raised by Nida and includes four aspects in which meaning is the most important,followed by form.Nida’s theory guides this translation process that the author conveys the original information in a natural way conforming to Chinese language habits.This translation report is based on serial articles on ISIS in Time.The major problem in translation project is how to deal with long sentences.Trying to solve this problem,the author classifies those long sentences in the translation project into two categories which are plentiful modifiers and various parentheses.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the author summarizes specific translation methods such as punctuation,reconstruction,embedding,division and inversion towards different types of long sentences,to realize the aim of conveying full information and achieve the effect of similar response of target language readers and source language readers.
