| The thesis is aimed to explore strategies on the translation of long sentences from the perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory selecting chapter one from Food and Agricultural Sociology.It is clear that the English literature of social science have some guidance to constructor humanities in China,while there are many long sentences standing in the way in terms of literature of social science,as a result,it is difficult for translators to handle some complicated structures of long sentences.So,proper skills and strategies in translation should be considered to cope with a plenty of long sentences.The famous translator,Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory,not only offers us guidance in theory but in practice for long sentences in the literature of social science.The features of the Functional Equivalence Theory is to reach some equivalents,and to make readers have similar understandings between source and translated text,with some instructions for translators to transfer information between two languages by feasible strategies in translation.Considering the Functional Equivalence Theory and structure contrasts,14 examples featured by long sentences in the thesis are analyzed with four strategies as literal translation,splitting translation,word conversion and recasting.The purpose of the four translation skills lies in testing whether they may be of some help to long sentences in literature of social science,with some benefits for us to have deep enlightenment about translation theories and practices. |
