This is a translation practice report. The source text is excerpted from Being Nixonwritten by Evan Thomas,a famous American journalist, historian, and writer. This biography is divided into three parts and consists of 30 chapters. And this report is based on the translation process of introduction and first two chapters, more than 10,000 words.Being Nixon is a new book of Evan Thomas published in 2015.It has been named one of the ten best nonfiction books of the year by Time and has become Evan Thomas`s third book on New York Times bestsellerlist. This biography gives us a true and detailed description of the legendary life of President Nixon.Even Tomas not only focuses the life of Nixon during his administration but the wholelife of him, from womb to tomb.Chapter one records the growth environment and education experience of Richard Nixon and discusses its influence to his character shaping.Chapter two describes a love story of Nixon and Pat.The paper is guided by Eugene Nida`s Functional Equivalence theory, devoted to realize the equivalence of content and stylistic feature between original and version. In order to let the receptors of the translated text have the similar response with the original receptors, both domestication and foreignization are used to make version faithful to the original and tally with the Chinese usage.Free translation and literal translation with notes are used to lessen the reading obstacles caused by cultural difference. Some translation strategies and skills are also adopted to solve the translation problems of proper noun and long sentence in this translation practice.
