Yuan Dynasty is a special period in China's history.Mongolian from North China conquered the former government and marched into Central China, bringing a lot of language and cultural contact with them. Therefore,in the history of ancient Chinese,Yuan Dynasty is also in a relatively special stage. In this dissertation, the modal adverbs in Yuan Dynasty are selected as the objects of my study, and five representative corpuses of Yuan Dynasty are selected as the direct data base. The corpusesare Five Novels in Yuan Dynasty(????????),Annotation of Xiao Jing(????),Thirty Drama Scripts in Yuan Dynasty(?????????),Original Version of Lao Qi Da(?????),and Laws of Yuan Government,Chapter Criminal Laws(?????).To enrich the research results of modern Chinese adverbs the Yuan Dynasty Chinese modal adverbs system is sorted out and their using methods are summarized by analyzing of the literatures of the Yuan Dynasty. This dissertation is divided into four parts.Basing on the characteristics of Chinese in Yuan Dynasty,I divide the Chinese modal adverbs of Yuan Dynasty into five categories:the confirming tone, the euphemism and conjecture tone, the interrogative and rhetorical tone, the evaluative tone and the imperative tone.In the five sub-categories,we confirm that we have the largest number of confirming-tone adverbs and the smallest number of euphemism-and-conjecture-tone adverbs. In the new generation of modal adverbs in Yuan Dynasty, the number of the adverbs of euphemism and conjecture tone is the largest, and the number of the adverbs of interrogative and rhetorical tone, and adverbs of the imperative tone are the least. From aspect of the syllable issue, the two-syllable modal adverbs have accounted for obvious advantages, and mostly in attachment style. Many modal adverbs can modify the predicate component and the whole sentence.Last but not the least,I discuss the subjectivity and subjectivisation of the modal adverb "Hao Dai"(??).Through the study we find that:modal adverb "Hao Dai"(??)appears in the end of Song Dynasty. The subjectivity of "Hao Dai"(??)strengthens in the of Yuan Dynasty.During Ming and Qing Dynasties "Hao Dai"(??)has developed into an adverb of the confirming tone, and of the euphemism and conjecture tone. And now we are still use "Hao Dai"(??)as an adverb like centuries before.
