This is a project report on the translation of the Chapter Two of“Make Yourself a Teacher”: Rabbinic Tales of Mentors and Disciples. The book is authored by Susan Handleman,a Professor of English Literature and Linguistics in Bar Ilan University in Israel. It provides plenty of objective comments on the events experienced by Rabbi Eliezer,a famous Jewish Rabbi. The part translated involves politics, ethnics, pedagogy, family and relationships among teachers, students and colleagues. The content of the report is divided into five chapters: Chapter 1 is the introduction to the translation report, including background of the translation report, significance of the translation report and objectives of the report;Chapter 2 is the analysis of the book which probes the background information about Judaism, book publication information and brief introduction to the author;Chapter 3 is the guiding translation theory of the project,in which Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory and its application are introduced;Chapter 4,is the most important part of the project, which involves difficulties in translating and translation methods and skills;and Chapter 5 concludes experiences and skills in translating such an informative text, and problems to be resolved. And hopefully, those translation skills and experiences may serve as a reference for future study.
