A Report On The Translation Of “Make Yourself A Teacher”:Rabbinic Tales Of Mentors And Disciples (Chapter 1)

This is a translation project report.The original text is the first chapter “Torah of the Belly: Rabbi Eliezer Starves for a teacher” in the book“Make Yourself a Teacher”:Rabbinic Tales of Mentors and Disciples written by Susan Handleman.The text mainly introduced the beginning of Rabbi Eliezer and discussed the relationship between parents and children,teachers and students as well as some educational ideas.Four parts form this translation project:First part is the introduction of the project,which includes the background and the significance.Second part is the introduction of the original text,which includes the writer and main content.Third part is the difficulties and methods of translation.Fourth part is the gains and unsolved problems in translation.The original text is informative one,so the guiding theory is the communicative translation of Peter Newmark.
