| With a prolonged endeavor,historians finally made it possible to turn "history" into an independent discipline in 1900 s.Apart from designed training Organizations and Journals,some historians wrote books to describe the process including Peter Novick.However,in terms of developments of " Objectivity" of professionalization in the United States,Novick illustrated the process in a unique way from other historians.This dissertation focus on considering the process of professionalization which explained in That Noble Dream: The “Objectivity Question” and the American Historical Profession.by Novick to get a further exploration of process and characteristics of professionalization and evaluation of Novick’s illustration.This dissertation includes four chapters.The first one is according to Novick’ book That Noble Dream which made his reputation,an introduction of Novick and his theory will be provided;chapter two illustrates the process and key elements from the perspective of professionalization based on summering the prior scholars.In addition,brief developments of historical practioners in the USA;the third chapter is the highlights of this paper which provides arguments of Novick under the chronological framework of four sections;chapter four concludes the characteristics of professionalization by Novick.Novick illustrates the detailed developments of the American Historical Profession with abundant historical resources and critical language via chronological framework.Yet introduction of mediaeval classical historians and the importance of documents at the early stage are lacking of during the Novick ’ illustration. |
