| With the deepening of Chinese and foreign food culture exchanges,Western food is gradually entering Chinese people’s life.In this case,the importance of cookbook translation has become increasingly important.Although some language workers have done some research in this field,and there are lots of studies on the English translation of Chinese cookbook,only few studies on Chinese translation of Western cookbooks can be found.Based on the translation of excerpts from Comfort Food Cookbook,a column of an American magazine Family Circle,this paper mainly discusses the translation of western cookbook from the perspective of Skopos theory.Skopos theory holds that translation is a purposeful communicative activity that consider the requirements of customers and readers.The translation of cookbook is different from that of literary work,its main purpose is to realize the interaction of information.Therefore,the translation of cookbook should be focused on the accuracy of messages.Guided by Skopos theory,the translation practice uses flexible translation methods,such as free translation,transformation,amplification,literal translation,and other translation methods.According to the analysis of the feature and translation methods of dish’s name,verbs,numerals and sentence structures,while on the premise of being faithful to the information of original text,the cookbook translation can also be combined with the target language in a flexible way. |
