| This paper is an English-Chinese translation report on chapter two of Lessons Learned from the Fukushima Accident for Improving Safety and Security of U.S.Nuclear Plants:Phase 2.The main authors are the members of the US National Academy of Science(USNSA).Chapter Two is about the lessons learned from the spent fuel storage.As it is well known,in March,2011,the Fukushima nuclear accident,in Japan,caused a huge damage to the ecosystem around the plants,which provoked many countries' great concern about and reflections on it.The report consists of four chapters.Chapter One make a general introduction,including the purpose,significance,background of the translation practice,and as well as the theoretical guidance.Chapter Two introduces the main authors,analyzes the content,structure and language features of the original text.Chapter Three is the main part of the whole report and the translator elaborates the difficulties and important points encountered in the translation process,and analyzes the translated versions of some classic sentences by using the related translation techniques.Chapter Four,the last part,makes a profound conclusion.The translator,with a combination of his own attempt,discusses the difficulties and solutions during the process of translating an English scientific and technological text,and eventually acquires inspirations and lessons.The original text belongs to the scientific and technical texts with abundant professional terms related to nuclear emerging in it.And the potential readers of the translated text are the Chinese public.So,the translator adopted the Communicative Translation Theory proposed by Newmark as the theoretical guidance,hoping to meet the understanding needs of the target readers,and finally to raise our awareness of danger of nuclear accidents,popularizing its elementary knowledge under the condition of being loyal to the original text. |
