Lessons Learned From The Fukushima Nuclear Accident For Improving Safety Of U.S. Nuclear Plants (Experts) Translation Report

Nuclear energy has become one of the major energy for current human society and nuclear power has become dominant in power industry.Meanwhile,the nuclear safety has been the focus of international community.The translation material is from a survey report made by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission following the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.The content of the excerpts of the survey report is the analysis of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident,and it also provides the specific recommendations and strategies that deal with emergencies in nuclear power plants.So the author believes that these recommendations and strategies are valuable for the operation and the responding to emergency episodes of all the nuclear power plants in the world.The material pertains to technical text.According to the characteristics of technical text translation and with the guidance of translation experiences and skills learned from former translators,the author translated the excerpts elaborately,and then summarized experiences and lessons learned from the translation process and completed the translation report.The translation practice report mainly contains four parts: project description,description of the translation process,case study and summary.The report mainly summed up problems and difficulties encountered during the translation process and also the required translating techniques in the two levels: lexical level and syntactic level.Firstly,in the lexical level,the cases analysis focus on amplification and Extension of word meaning;secondly,in the syntactic level,the cases analysis focus on passive voice,such as the three common strategies for passive voice translation applied in this translation process: converting English passive voice to Chinese active voice;converting the passive voice into a non-subject sentence;leaving the passive voice unchanged.As for the widelyused long sentences in the original text,the author summarized the two translation strategies: the dividing and recasting of long sentences.The author hopes that the experience and lessons learned from this translation process can be the preference for the future translation practice,as for the limitation exposed in this translation process,the further and specific effort is needed in the future for a great breakthrough.
