The Research About Culture Transmission Of Temple Fair In Northern Shaanxi With The Perspective Of Ritual

Located on Loess Plateau in Shannxi Province,with the unique geographical and human environment,Baiyun Mountain cultivates a temple fair characterized by the northern Shaanxi.The temple fair in Baiyun Mountain is a product of local religious,custom and belief.It’s an annual group gathering with the largest scale and most participants.From the perspective of communication,this paper takes James Kerry’s theory of "Ritual Review of Communication" and Goertz’s theory of "Deep Description" and "Explanation of Cultural Significance" as reference.The paper regards that the culture transmission of temple fair in Baiyun Mountain area as a sacred ceremony joined by local people and with their general recognition.The meaning of the temple fair is not only for delivering message(such as what happened in this village recently,daughter of which family is going to hold a wedding ceremony,or when and where there will be some kind of activity),but also a method to build an orderly and significant local culture world,the source of culture transmission on temple fair in Baiyun Mountain area from two aspects-the local religious factor and folk belief.It was found that ritual is the most important link during spreading by research.Secondly,from the point of specific ritual,it analyzed the non-linguistic symbols in this paper-such as color symbols,image symbols and behavior symbols.In the next chapter,the temple activities are divided into two parts,religious rituals and believers own ceremony.Although they are different in forms,the essence is the same.Specifically,in these two different parts,whether it is Taoists or ordinary believers,people in the ceremony will not get much new information.However,it reinforces and describes the general recognition of specific world view among local people.he conclusion of this study is that people participate in the temple fair is not only for spiritual comfort,but also for some other meanings.The specific performance is as follows:local people take temple activities as a way to release their mental stress;while they exchanges feelings with others,they also hint themselves to adapt to the social environment all the time.These implies,to some extent,keep the harmony of the local community.During this process,local people also are involved in economic activity,which promotes them to form the concept of commodity economy;in the temple ritual,they share the common local cultural symbols and constantly strengthen their own geographical identity to build a cultural world belonging to them.In the view of James Kerry’s "Ritual Review of Communication" and Goertz’s"Explanation of Cultural,this paper provides a new perspective for studying temple fair culture.Through the description of the ritual process in the temple activities,writer analyzes and interprets how significance of the temple culture is and the special meaning it has in northern Shaanxi area.Besides analysis of the transmission of temple fair culture,writer also hopes to offer some inspiration for the study of other traditional culture through the experience of temple fair culture in Baiyun Mountain area.
