A Report On The Translation Of Dilemmas Of Development(Chapter Three)

This report is based on the English-to-Chinese translation of the economic text,Dilemmas of Development(Chapter Three),assigned by a translation company.The focus of the report is to explore the translation strategies under the guidance of Skopos theory,especially how the skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule of Skopos theory are followed in the translation process.Before the translation practice,the translator determined the purpose of the translation,which is to transfer information conveyed in the source text to the target readers.Then,the translator made an analysis of the source text by summarizing its lexical,syntactical and textual features,such as the use of economic terms,long complex sentences and cohesive devices,which are also the difficulties of translation.Afterwards,the translator adopted proper strategies under the guidance of Skopos theory,such as the strategies of literal translation,free translation and annotation at the lexical level,the strategies of following the original order,inverting the original order and division at the syntactical level,and the strategies of repetition and amplification at the textual level.Through these strategies,the translator tried to produce a target text which is acceptable by the readers,in the hope that the purpose of transferring information could be achieved.
