Owning to China’s strategy of “The Belt and Road Initiative”,more and more Chinese enterprises are going abroad to set up factories for production.Hence the problems of the management of technology(MOT)arise, the translation of MOT texts plays a supporting role.Furthermore, the translation of MOT texts is one of the problems affecting the expansion of overseas market. The problem mainly arises from the unique textual feature in that MOT texts are both informative and operative. As this field is devoid of attention from scholars, few results can be obtained for reference. This study is intended to probe the strategies for translating MOT texts under the guidance of skopos theory and with Procedures of Yunnan Jinsha Mining Industry Co.,Ltd.on the Administration of Mining Production Technology as an example.Since skopos theory was proposed by German theorists Reiss & Vermeer in the late 1970 s,many researches have been conducted at home and abroad. So it is relatively mature. The theory emphasizes that the target language should be located according to purpose, convention, text type and target readership. Its core is the three major rules,of which purpose is the most important one. Therefore, this theory is expected to guide the research and translation well. The thesis offers a definition to MOT texts, discusses their translation in overseas Chinese enterprises, their translation study and their application to actual translation. Then the thesis marshals the four basic factors and three rules of the theory.Meanwhile, the features of MOT texts are analyzed. They include technical terms, model verbs and redundancy at the lexical level;passive sentences and long and complex sentences at the syntactic level, and informative and operative functions at the textual level. After the comparison between Chinese and English, the author has gained insight into the difficulties in translating MOT texts.Accordingly some translation strategies are proposed: finding exact equivalents for technical terms, adopting legal language, omitting redundancy, dividing sentences, rewriting according to translation purpose, adding connectives, supplying information, andadopting format of the target language. It is expected that these strategies can provide some references for translators in overseas enterprises.
