Face Directly-A Study Of The Color Expression In Oil Painting Creation

The topic of my graduation design is “Face directly –A study of the color expression in oil painting creation”.With the changes of the times,the development of oil painting experienced from the classical to the post impressionism painting to modern art,the color expression form of the oil painting has experienced a long process of transformation.The color is only used for modeling which is mainly used to express the inherit color in the traditional painting stage.And in the stage of contemporary art,the painting's color performance mostly supplies services to the art itself,the creation of oil painting pays more attention to the freedom and original artistic performance,and the contemporary artists pay more attention to their own emotional catharsis and personal interpretation of artistic features.Only when the painters experienced the training of a variety of styles,genres and the spirit of the times,and then combined with their own emotional and color theory knowledge for creation,they can show the personal art style of the painter better.Color performance works act as the ultimate arts;painters need rigorous color theory to support the creation.The color changes has diversity,the artist could not create with a single color mode,this article has three parts,summarizing representative figures and their works with outstanding color,which mainly analyzes and summarizes the emotion experience of the artist and painting's color performance,explains the journey of the heart of the author in creation.The first part is the pictures of work including the finished picture,some derivative pictures that being created after previous material selection,as well as the pictures of creation process which was conducted according to the theoretical research.The second part is theoretical report,which can be divided into demand report,theoretical study report,process report and research summary.It mainly analyzes the representatives who are very outstanding in color expression and their works as well.To explore the practical value of color expression research on the basis of theory so as to provide theoretical support to my research project and creation is the core of this paper.The third part is creation process report.Personal creation idea and thought can be confirmed on the basis of theoretical research.This part will illustrate the source of creation inspiration,creation thought and creation process in detail.It can be regarded as practical application and summary of the theoretical research on color expression.When it comes to the creation of oil painting,any tiny feelings of a painter,direct or indirect,can help them grasp the opportunity of color perception so as to stimulate the accumulative emotion inspiration and deep thought of reality.Color expression is the soul of oil painting creation;it requires the painters to create works by combining their subjective feelings with color theory,as well as depending on the intuition generated during the creation process.A painter's unique artistic style can be formed only through the integration of theory and practice;accordingly,the painter will resonate with the audience through the work.Taking the form of oil painting on canvas and combining theoretical research on color expression with market survey,this graduation design is a creation of oil painting named “Face Directly” series.Starting from the perspective of oil painter,this paper analyzes development and evolution of color concept,and the differences of color expression in modern oil painting art.During the development of modern oil painting,the painters pay more attention to the subjective color expression of work and exploration of their own artistic style.Hope the research can be helpful to the practice of oil painting creation.With the intention to convey the emotional expression of color in oil painting,“Face Directly” series have totally 4 oil paintings on canvas with a specification of 80*100cm.This series shows the intuitive sense of the figures through color expression,and applies the works to derivative product market so as to meet diversified requirement of the customers.
