In recent years, improving comprehensive national strength brings more positions for comprehensive talents. The number of students in increasing, in order to face this situation, some higher vocational colleges begin to adjust students training plan and major structure. The education mode of these colleges is in face of a great challenge. If they insist on traditional education mode, "polarization" problem will be obvious in students'grades and break their confidences.As a new teaching mode, stratified teaching method is not only different in teaching managements, teaching objectives, teaching assessment and so on, but also useful in specific educational practice. This paper discusses the definition of stratified teaching and research trends at home and broad. More than that, this paper also analyzes the background and method of this subject. Through the experimental research of English stratified teaching in Hunan Urban Professional College, bases on teaching object, target, content, method and evaluation mechanism in different levels and statistical analysis, this paper summarizes the causes of those problems and puts forward reasonable improvement measures, in order to develop stratified teaching method smoothly and successfully.Through the study of English level-teaching in Hunan Urban Professional College we can find:layering teaching under the premise of students individual differences in identity, according to their aptitude, highlight the subjectivity of students, effectively arouse the enthusiasm of students'learning, and improve the teaching quality. Level-teaching is an effective mode of new teaching reform that can adapt to the needs of the development of current education teaching reform.
