A Report On Sustainability Report Translation

This translation report aims at providing a reference for other translators who are working to translate sustainability reports for their companies and maximize the benefits for companies which issue the report.Based on a comprehensive study of the development,language features and the functions of English and Chinese sustainability reports,this translation report,taking the translation of Danone 2014 Sustainability Report as an example,first summarizes three difficulties in translation,that is,the textual purpose and non-textual purpose,faithfulness and smoothness,and transformation of thinking and language skills,then offers three main solutions with plenty of examples.The translation report believes that a translator must fully consider the clients' requirements and make a smart balance between the identity of a translator and an employee when translating a commercial text like the sustainability report.The Chinese version should not be constrained by the punctuation,parts of speech and sentence structure of its original text.A translator must ensure the accuracy of every term and make the Chinese sentences flexible as a way to attach equal importance to faithfulness and smoothness in translation.Besides,the transformation of thinking model between English and Chinese is also vital to avoid dead translation which produces ungrammatical,incoherent,mechanical and obscure Chinese version.
