Based on Katharina Reiss's theory of text-type,the author explores the translation of two research papers on Communication Engineering that he undertook and proves the applicability of Reiss's text-type theory to the translation of research papers of a mixed type. The Research papers belong to mixed type of text with a predominant informative content accompanied by expressive features. Also, the translation method relating to this kind of research papers is discussed. This report is divided into five Chapters. In the first part the task background is briefly introduced, and the significance of this translation practice is demonstrated. The second part gives a retrospect of the whole translation from the preparation, the translation process,to the modification and revising periods.Meanwhile,Reiss's theory is brought out in the third part as a guiding approach to establishing a specific translation principle, following her thread of analysis-and-reverbalization.The forth part is the very core of the entire report, where the author unfolds the case study with an analysis of lexical words in terms of meaning,of translating complex sentences by applying various translation techniques, and then move on to an overall examination related word and sentence translation from the viewpoint of logic relationships. This part also highlights those mistakes likely to be found in the Source Text, along with the feasible solutions.A conclusion concerning the theory application and a self-reflection of the author is drawn in the last part.
