A Report On The C-E Translation Of Chapter Ⅴ Of The Tender Documents For Zimbabwe Parliament Building Assistance Project

Along with the deepening of international cooperation,overseas engineering projects which are usually completed in forms of international tenders are increasing day by day.According to international practice,documents concerning international tenders must have the corresponding English version.Therefore,the translation of tender documents is necessary in international tenders.Especially when Chinese companies participate in the international tenders,translation of high quality plays an important role in winning the tender.At present,the translation studies in this field are mostly about E-C translation.The C-E translation task of the Technical Document in Tender Documents for Zimbabwe Parliament Building Assistance Project in which the author participated is the combination of legal translation and sci-tech translation,and it belongs to pragmatic translation.German functionalist translation theory is very instructive to pragmatic translation.As Christiane Nord summed up the theory,she also perfected it.After studying Nord’s functionalist approach to translation,the author applied it in this translation task,and formed this translation report by summarizing the translation process.Under the guidance of Nord’s principle of functionality plus loyalty,the author finds that Nord’s model for translation-oriented text analysis can help translators to have a better analysis of the text and plan different translation strategies.This practice also proves that the looping model is significant in directing the translation process.The report consists of four chapters.Chapter One gives an introduction to the translation task.Chapter Two explains the theoretical guidance.Chapter Three consists of the analysis of the translation process,including interpretation of translation brief,analysis of source text,planning of translation strategy,and production of target text.Chapter Four is the conclusion of findings,limitations,and suggestions.The author also hopes that this report can provide some references for others.
