Kant, a famous German philosopher, first put forward the concept of Schema in his Kant,a famous German philosopher,first put forward the concept of Schema in his transcendental theory, and then developed into a modern Schema Theory through others’research, such as Piaget. At the beginning, the Schema Theory is a research method of the first language. It has become one of the important theories of second language acquisition which enormously affects the guidance of reading teaching of second language, followed by to the cross-cultural research direction. The study of Schema Theory in Chinese reading teaching is very necessary. Intermediate Chinese reading plays an important role in forming a connection link during the process of reading, and is the best stage to apply the Schema Theory to reading teaching,in which the foreign students already have a certain number of schemata but not fully mature.This paper will state briefly the relationship between the Schema Theory and the teaching of intermediate Chinese reading to study the function of different types of schemata in reading’s each part. Accordingly,it shows the Schema Theory as a specific teaching part in the teaching of intermediate Chinese Reading. In this paper, we take intermediate Chinese Reading Course (Zhou Xiaobing) as an example, and explore the application of Schema Theory in the intermediate Chinese reading class through the specific teaching design.This paper includes five parts.The first part is the introduction, which introduces the the significance and purpose of the title, as well as the ideas, framework and methods of the research. The second part is the outline of the schema theory and related research,including the summary of schema theory, the schema theory and the theory of schema and the study of Chinese reading teaching . The third part is the feasibility analysis of the schema theory applied in the design of intermediate Chinese reading teaching, including the application of schema theory and the goal of intermediate Chinese reading teaching,the use of pattern theory and intermediate Chinese reading teaching object adaptation and the application of schema theory corresponds to the teaching process of intermediate Chinese reading.The fourth part is the teaching design of intermediate Chinese Reading under the guidance of the Schema Theory. As mentioned, in the studying the function of different types of schemata in reading’s each part, we select a lesson from Chinese Reading Course as an example, design the specific teaching progress, teaching plan and do self-assessment and reflection. The fifth part is the conclusion.
