A Report On The Simulated Consecutive Interpreting Of “Poverty Eradication&Peaceful Development” Conference Of China Daily

This report is based on the simulated Consecutive Interpreting of “Poverty Eradication and Peaceful Development? held by China Daily in 2020.The conference aims to share the Chinese experience of poverty eradication around the world,call on all countries to work with China and UN for economic recovery under the circumstance of global economic slowdown,and ensure the global peaceful development.The report consists of five chapters.The author adopted English-Chinese Consecutive Interpreting.The author introduces the background of the task and the practical purpose of this report,describes the introduction and the contents of the conference and analyzes the characteristics of the speakers?pronunciations.The author selected the speeches in the conference as the practice materials of simulated Consecutive Interpreting under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory.Description of the interpreting progress is divided into three parts: before interpreting,while interpreting,and after interpreting.The background knowledge preparation before the task is introduced in the first part which also includes selecting the interpreting theory and methods.The usage of tools,resources,and interpreting plan including emergency plan are all introduced in the first part.The second part includes quality control and the progress description.The last part includes self-evaluation and peer evaluation.The Interpretive Theory ensures the successful completion of the task in breaking the form and structure of the original language and delivering the information accurately with original context,purpose,intention,and emotion.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory,the author analyzes the problems and difficulties encountered in the conference interpreting with the interpreting methods.She finds four problems including abbreviation and professional terms,redundancy,ambiguous expressions,and the passive voice.According to the strategy of domestication,she solves the problems encountered in the task applied the interpreting methods such as cognitive complements,simplification,explanation,and conversion of the active voice and the passive voice.Finally,the author summarizes the task,reflects on this practice,and concludes problems encountered in the task and the experience worthy of future interpreters.Through the introduction of the interpreting progress,analysis,and summary of the task,the author studies the accurate way of interpreting speeches in the field of economy and discusses the application of the combination of interpreting theory and practice.This report is of practical significance for the author to improve her interpreting skills,and get familiar with the similar interpreting tasks,and especially help interpreters perform better in conference interpreting of the economic and poverty alleviation topics.It also provides relevant experience in material selection,preparation,and evaluation methods for future similar economic and poverty alleviation conference interpreting.
