Chinese dishes have gained world renown, the name of the dish is its slogan and language carrier, it passes the message of the taste, color, smell, shape and other information of dishes. Foreign students will inevitably encounter dishes name when they are learning Chinese culture and dining daily. Given that they grasped the motivation of dishes-naming, they would catch the contents of the dish more efficiently according to name of the dish. In this paper, the author will do The Research on the Motivation of Chinese Dishes-Naming and Its Application in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Not only can it help learners to improve life skills, expand the knowledge of Chinese, but also it can assist to deepen the understanding of Chinese culture and improve the daily communication and cross-culture communication skills.This thesis is based on linguistics, analyzes the realistic-type dishes from the aspects of grammar, pronunciation, semantic study, studying the spontaneous-style dishes from the cultural point of view. At the same time, this thesis will survey, arrange and analyze the cognition degree about Chinese dishes name by way of questionnaire among different levels of students who study in China, thus to develop the pointed foreign language teaching programs on the Chinese dishes names, provide reference and help for the TCSL teachers.
