"Modern Chinese Dictionary" is recognized as the most authoritative dictionary of modern Chinese reference books. Quadword idiom is the most basic form, occupying an important position in dictionary compiling. Based on the "Modern Chinese Dictionary" version 6 and 5 edition of the quadword idioms as the research object, explores the changes of quadword idioms in entry, phonetic notation, definition, enclosed note, example sentence.The first chapter is the introduction part, the paper firstly discusses the research object and research significance, from the "Modern Chinese Dictionary" and the quadword idioms to discuss, and then introduces the predecessors’ research status of the modern Chinese and the quadword idioms. Finally, it introduces the research idea and method, the source of corpus, selecting, labeling in this paper, etc.The second chapter to fifth chapter respectively from entry, phonetic notation, definitions, enclosed note and examples to discusses. The second chapter about the revision of the entry, mainly from the number of entries, forms, and the order of the entries to discusses; the third chapter about the revision of the phonetic notation, mainly about the analysis of the phonetic format; the fourth chapter about the revision of the definition, mainly about the senses of a dictionary entry, the surface meaning and deep meaning, commentaries on the cue word, commentaries on the words and sentences; the fifth chapter about the revision of the enclosed note and the examples, mainly about the enclosed note of add, delete, and change, also include the examples of add and delete.The sixth chapter is the analysis of quadword idioms revision change, mainly from the cause and the effect of the revision to discusses.
