Research On The Explanations Of Chinese Idioms In Modern Chinese Dictionary

This thesis selects 3655 Chinese idioms from Modern Chinese Dictionary (2005 edition) as the research object, establishes a excel corpus, discusses them from three aspects:senses, explanation patterns and illustrative examples. Classifications and analysis are made to benefit the idioms'research and the standardization of dictionary.The thesis mainly divides into five parts:the introduction part summarizes the current studies of this proposition, determines the contents and the scope of research, and makes clear the significance and the work procedure of research.The first part studies the idioms'senses. The author analyses the number, the gradation and the order of idioms'senses. Then concludes the character of the idioms'senses in Modern Chinese Dictionary and raise some pieces of advice about the idioms'senses.The second part makes a classification of idioms'explanation patterns in Modern Chinese Dictionary:genuine explanation pattern and correlative explanation pattern. The genuine explanation pattern includes the morpheme explanation pattern and the explanation pattern using the cue words. The correlative explanation pattern can divide into etymology explanation pattern, parentheses explanation pattern and correlative explanation pattern. The author tries to describe the panorama of explanation patterns and point some existing problems in the explanation patterns.The third part investigates the illustrative examples. The author calculates the illustrative examples'number and sums up the type of illustrative examples. Then analyses the character of the illustrative examples and picks some points of view about the illustrative examples in Modern Chinese Dictionary.Conclusion part makes a conclusion, summarizes the main opinion of the thesis.In short, the Chinese idioms'explanation in Modern Chinese Dictionary has much precious experience for the lexicography. The research can deepen our understanding of Chinese idioms, accumulate experience for Chinese idioms'lexicography, and prompt idioms lexicography to a new stage.
