The love story between Wang Kui and Gui Ying has been popular since Ming Dynasty, and has appeared in various dynasties in different kinds of literature style. These works either denounce the betrayal of Wang Kui or defend for him. In the Wan-li times of Ming Dynasty, “Fengxiangji” created by Wang Yufeng is the first and completely preserved drama which absent a reversal of Wang Kui.Wang Yufeng transforms Wang Kui from a heart breaker into a spoony figure. On one hand, it is influenced by the historical and cultural background of Long-qing and Wan-li in Ming Dynasty, in which most tragedies in the song and yuan drama are often ended with reunion and happiness, so plays about reversing verdicts are in active demand. On the other hand, it is closely related to the ways of the world in that period. In a word, it's a legend that has both zeitgeist and practical significance.“Fengxiangji” is unique in art. The author is good at capturing features of legendary creation, avoiding using flat words, focusing on ups and downs of plots in the arrangement of plot and structure. At the same time, he creates a group of lifelike and vivid characters with the help of exquisite management of character utterances. Wang Yufeng arranges the utterances according to circumstance and feature of that time, not only making them have the same time traits, but also let audiences distinguish the social positions and roles of different people by means of utterances.“Fengxiangji” can't be described as standout, but its value shouldn't be ignored in the vast river of classic Chinese drama. Up until now, it has still been adapted in local opera, flourishing on opera stage.
