The Legend of Wu Shuang,created by Xue Diao in Tang Dynasty,is a famous Tang legend.It tells a consummate love story between Wang Xianke and Liu Wushuang with the help of Gu Yaya,a righteous chivalrous person,so it caused wide and broad effects on the later works.The Legend of Pearl and The Legend of Double Fairies,the traditional operas of Ming and Qing Dynasties,both are adapted from the Legend of Wu Shuang.However,the propagation of this legend in later periods always put emphasis on the combing of the content.There are abundant researches relating to The Legend of Pearl while the researches relating to The Legend of Double Fairies are scarce,not to mention the contrastive analysis between The Legend of Pearl and The Legend of Double Fairies.This paper makes concrete analysis of the adaptation conditions of The Legend of Wu Shuang by the traditional opera works of Ming and Qing Dynasties with the use of comparison method and text analytical method,and summarizes the ideological tendencies in different times and gives a full analysis about the reasons for the differences.It will be conducive to understanding the additions and deletions during the adaptations and the impacts of the different characteristics of times.This paper is divided into three parts: the introduction,main body and the conclusion.The introduction,explains the impacts of Tang legend The Legend of Wu Shuang on the traditional opera works in later period,combs the research situation relating to the subject in academic circles,and clarifies the research idea and innovation in this paper as well as the textual value of the Tang Legend in the later propagation.The main body,including three parts,makes concrete analysis of the adaptation conditions of The Legend of Wu Shuang in the traditional operas works of Ming and Qing Dynasties,and put emphasis on the differences research.The first part discusses the characters' images and the structure of The Legend of Pearl from The Legend of Wu Shuang.From the aspect of characters' imagess,The Legend of Pearl enriched the Characters' characteristics and rewrote the ending of both the main characters such as Wang Xianke and Liu Wushuang as well as the secondary characters such as Sai Hong and Cai Ping.From the aspect of plot,The Legend of Pearl focuses on love by adding the fighting between the staunch and the treacherous,thus The Legend of Double Fairies' s one-way down structure are turned into two crossing lines,the line of male characters and the line of female characters.The second part discusses the characters' images and the structure of The Legend of Double Fairies from The Legend of Wu Shuang and The Legend of Pearl.It clarifies the inheritance of the three legends and analyzes the specialty of The Legend of Double Fairies.Firstly,charactersbecame more perfect and righteous,for example,Wang Xianke became more humble and courteous,Wang Suizhong became a loyalist.Secondly,by adding the Mutiny Event,changing the characters' destiny and using coincidences,The Legend of Double Fairies' s narrative are focused and tortuous,its characters' dress up are more abundant and perfect.The Legend of Double Fairies' s structure is made up by crossing lines of love and politics.The third part discusses the differences of the ideological tendencies and their reasons betweenThe Legend of Double Fairies and The Legend of Pearl.The Legend of Pearl focuses on the expression of love while The Legend of Double Fairies focuses on the expression of doctrine of loyalty,filial piety,chastity and righteousness,caused by different political and cultural backgrounds and the authors' different personal conditions.The conclusion,on the basis of the combing of the whole paper,makes a further clarification of the different values for the traditional opera works of Ming and Qing Dynasties during the adaptation of The Legend of Wu Shuang and this theme's methodological significance to the study on novels and drama.
