Being the major impetus of social development, the workers have drawn extensive attention since the time of our nation founding. After the film Bridge, the workers began to appear as protagonist which was the most described character in a quite long period. With the development of the film art, the images of workers in different periods show different spiritual characteristics.In the period of "main stream" image, the film creation revolves around the "revolution" and "people", and the image of different types of workers is described in a panoramic and multi angle ways. Worker's image as the masters of the new to the revolution of simple, sincere enthusiasm was shown face the masses of independence and self-reliance. "Symbolic" image period, with the position of sharp, "correct thinking" of the hero image of the workers had became the aim under political discipline which object the film to focus on and performance of.The image of "Disenchantment" period, the characterization gradually changed from the grand narrative to express individual emotion. Worker characters returned to reality and shown the development trend of diversification. During the period of "fragmentation" image, confused and lost by the market transformation process, the groups of workers was gradually forgotten by the era,with external environment of "homeless" and the inner world of "wistful",so that they become "strangers" who eager to get the identity.In the historical period of transformation process, worker characters experienced change of " transform-define-overturn" among different aspects like socio-cultural context, character establishment, icon moulding. Thus fully embodied its irreplaceable significant as a paradigm of time.
