In this project report, the author selects and translates some articles featuring provoking comment on western cultural phenomena of great significance, hoping to provide target readers a distinct perspective and help them to enhance humanistic quality and establish humanistic concern.News translation has the function of spreading news information and serves as a bridge between different countries and areas to promote communication and understanding among peoples. Based on the whole translation process, the author points out major issues and difficulties in three aspects, namely, culture-loaded words and new words, sentence structure as well as rhetorical devices in the translation project and puts forward detailed translation strategies at the level of lexicon, syntax and rhetorical devices. By analyzing differences between English and Chinese and distinctions between western and Chinese cultures, the author realizes that translators should follow reader-oriented principle and establish the awareness of cultural turn in order to make the translation version loyal and smooth.
