A Project Report On The E-C Translation Of Business Column In The Economist

The Economist is a local English journal with long history and high prestige around the world, casting extensive and profound influence not only in the international financial and economic circles, but also among global politicians and scholars. With the increasingly accelerated process of globalization, translating the essays in The Economist into Chinese is essential and significant for Chinese people to broaden their international horizon. At the same time, the author's translating ability has got improved to a large degree via this project.Based on the translating practice of the business column in The Economist, the author points out some major issues and difficulties encountered in the process in terms of titles,terminologies, linguistic structures and rhetorical devices, and puts forward detailed translation strategies at the level of lexicon,sentence structure and rhetorical devices. By analyzing the distinctions between the two languages as well as the translation strategies,the author realizes that "reader-orientation" and "veracity and accuracy" are two indispensable principles to be followed by all translators.
