Life is always full of uncertainty, such as the financial crisis, political change, natural disasters and so on, because of the existence of this uncertainty, people may be faced with frustration, disappointment, stress and other psychological burden, leading to the occurrence of mental illness. So, how to deal with the phenomenon of out of control? Much of the research has been exploring the cognitive strategies to compensate for the lack of sense of control. However, due to the potential of cognitive and difficult to control, the researchers began to seek alternative paths to compensation for the deprivation of the sense of control experience. On the basis of this, we put forward a view that the sense of touch will affect people’s sense of control in the environment of out of control, and different tactile experience ways will play a regulatory role in this effect. In this study, we designed three interrelated experiments to verify the hypothesis. Through interviews, questionnaires, situational simulation, experimental stimulation we collected a large amount of experimental data, and to reached the following conclusions. First, in an active mode of tactile experience, the softness tactile sensation would bring a stronger sense of control than the hardness tactile sensation, which called "softness more control" effect, on the contrary, when the participants suffered from a passive mode of tactile experience, the sense of control would stronger in a hardness tactile perception than touch something soft, resulting in "hardness more control" effect; second, in the condition of the sense of lack of control, for the product need active touch, people would prefer to choose which is soft than hard, otherwise for the passive experience products, people will be inclined to choose the hard one to compensate the lack of sense of control; third, the mechanism behind the effect of "softness more control" in the active mode of tactile experience and the effect of "hardness more control" in the passive mode of tactile experience is the theory of thoughtful dominant. Under the active mode of tactile experience, the incremental theory dominate us, and people prefer to choose something which perceived more control, however, in the passive mode of tactile experience, entity theory dominate us, so more people inclined to choose hard products to compensate the lack of sense of control. The research conclusions of this paper has certain theoretical and practical implications. It fills the gap of the control theory research, and helps enterprise do better tactile design of products, thus enhance the consumer’s product experience. However, with the restriction of objective conditions, there are also some limitations in this paper. The laboratory environment is not fully controlled, which would have some effects on the experimental results. In addition, the sample of the study is only college students, which may be not comprehensive. Future research may further explore the effect covering different age levels. Future researchers may improve the research by exploring the compensation effect of the interaction effects of the different senses of control sense, and introducing the emotional reactions to explain the effects.
