The Study On Tactile Adjective In Modern Chinese

Our basic knowledge about the world originates from the continuous'probing'of our body. The body perceives the world through sense and experience. Sense is the simplest, most basic and most important way of obtaining knowledge; it has a meaning of fundamental importance in our daily life, and also serves as the basis of various complicated psychological processes. From this point, sense is the headspring of all knowledge human obtained about the world. Studies on sensory words and expressions will help us obtain further knowledge on human thinking pattern and cognitive pattern, and further more, master the essence of language more thoroughly.The most basic senses of human include tactile sense, olfactory sense, auditory sense and visual sense, of which tactile sense is both the most basic and most indispensable one. This article studies and categorizes the tactile adjective, which has not yet attracted sufficient study, from synchronic angle, using specified and reliable materials and based on the study results of language academics both at home and abroad. The metaphors of tactile adjective can be divided into synesthetic metaphor and other metaphors. The ambiguity of tactile sense and tactile adjective is also one of the focuses of this article.In this study, we will emphasize on measures of integrating and mutual corroborating of quantitative statistics and qualitative analysis. Given that clarifying language phenomenon is the ultimate objective for language study, this article will give theoretical explanation based on specifically described language phenomenon. Through complementation between induction and deduction, we will take efforts to realize careful observation, detailed description and penetrating explanation.This article is divided into six chapters as following:Chapter one: IntroductionIt explains the origin and meaning of this subject. This chapter gives a brief description on the study results of predecessors and determines the direction and methodology of this article base on their studies.By referring to the previous study threads and study results of sensory words and expressions, and reviewing on some mainstream views and study results, this article crystallizes the study angle, scope, methodology and applied theories. Chapter two: Definition and Categorization of Tactile AdjectivesMany disciplines take tactile sense as a study subject, among which psychology and physiology provide the most thorough studies. After applying comprehensive analysis on various different definitions of tactile adjective, this chapter determines the definition adopted in this article, and furthermore, determines the defining benchmark. It also categorizes the tactile adjectives by sensory part, amount of syllable and emotional difference. This categorization will help us understand different members in tactile adjective family more clearly.Chapter three: Analysis of Semantic Feature of Tactile AdjectivesBy defining basic tactile adjectives and referring to the dictionary explanation, this chapter describes and analyzes the features of the semantic elements, and furthermore, analyzes the connections among them for the purpose of crystallizing the pattern of its derivation. This part also analyzes several commonly used synesthetic adjectives concerning tactile sense properties and sums up their word-building features.Chapter four: The study on metaphor of Tactile AdjectivesThe metaphors of tactile adjective can be divided into synesthetic metaphor and other metaphors. The prior is a special feature of sensory words and expressions. Because tactile sense is the most basic one in five senses, according to the projection principle, it can project over other senses. So, it is worthwhile to carry out a specified analysis on synesthetic metaphor. Another objective field of tactile adjective metaphor is psychological and emotional field.Chapter five: Ambiguity and Language Application Value of Tactile AdjectivesTactile adjective is a typical fuzzy set. Ambiguous language can bring flexibility and randomicity for people's perception and understanding, and it is irreplaceable by any precise words and expressions. The ambiguity of tactile adjective is a double-edged sword. On one side, it may cause difficulties in communication or obstacles in understanding; on the other side, it can enrich language expressiveness and enhance language flexibility.Chapter six:Conclusion. Summarize the content of study, and points out that deficiencies and the question that needs to be further explored.
