the ability of understanding visual, auditory, tactile information of others is thattoddlers take their communicative partners’ previous visual, auditory, tactileexperiences into account and tailor their communication accordingly. If we want tocommunicate with other people effectively, we not only need to know what is old andnew information for them, we also need to tailor our own communication accordingly. And when do the Chinese children have this ability? In this study we try to explorethe understanding ability about30~36months old children from the point of sight, hearing and touch sensation. This study consists of three experiments: the first experiment is a attentionallocation test which examined whether toddlers take their communicative partners’previous visual experiences into account and tailor their communication accordingly. In the study, sixteen children(eight boys and eight girls, mean age33months) had toask their mother or father for help in retrieving a sticker dropped into1of2identicalcontainers placed on the cupboard. The parent either witnessed that the sticker wasdropped into or did not because toddlers’ mother or father went out. The result showsthat when toddlers’ mother or father have not see the sticker place, childrensignificantly given more information about that when they asked for help in retrievingthe stickers than he/she has. The second and the third experiments are between groupdesign which examined whether toddlers take their communicative partners’ previousauditory, tactile experiences into account and tailor their communication accordingly.Thirty children(sixteen boys and fourteen girls, mean age33months) participated inthis two experiments respectively. In second experiments, the toddlers and an adultheard the sound of one object together, but only the child heard the sound of anotherobject. When later the sounds of both objects were played simultaneously, the adultreacted with surprise and excitement(oh! listen, what is that?).The result shows thatthe toddlers directed the adults’ attention to the object which adult have not heardbefore more often. In the third experiment the toddlers and an adult touched the oneobject together, but only the child touched another object. When later both objects were touched by adult simultaneously, the adult reacted with surprise andexcitement(oh! what is that?).The result shows that the toddlers directed the adults’attention to the object which adult have not touched before more often. The study finally get four conclusions:(1)30~36month old children have theability of understanding visual information of others.(2)30~36month old have theability of understanding auditory information of others.(3)30~36month old have theability of understanding tactile information of others.(4)30~36month old the abilityof understanding tactile information of others develops slightly faster than the abilityof understanding visual information and auditory information of others, the ability ofunderstanding auditory information develops slightly slower.
