A Report On C-E Translation Of Hunan Literature Column On The Portal Of Hunan Department Of Culture

This thesis is a practice report based on the author’s C-E translation of Hunan Literature column on the portal of Hunan Provincial Department of Culture. The source text, Hunan Literature, includes "Overview", "Ancient Literature", "Modern Literature", "Contemporary Literature" and "Current Literature", mainly describing the development situation of Hunan literature in different periods and introducing the Hunan writers in different developing phases as well as their works. It is of great significance for Hunan literature "going out". The thesis falls into four parts, respectively introduction, translation process description, translation difficulties and solution and conclusion.Based on author’s translation practice, this translation report mainly analyzes the translation of the source text from three aspects, i.e. Chinese book titles, Chinese four-character phrases and Chinese long complex sentences. In the translation of Chinese book titles, literal translation, literal translation plus explanation and borrowing are adopted; In the translation of Chinese four-character phrases, the thesis proposes the conversion of Chinese four-character phrases into one-word English expression, into English parallel structure, into English adjective-noun construction and into English verb-object phrases; In the translation of Chinese long complex sentences, the author comprehensively uses the change of word orders, reorganization of sentence structure and addition of cohesive ties.The translation report indicates that in order to accurately translate texts related to local literature, the translator should not only comprehend the content and linguistic features of source text, but also have sound literary knowledge and adopt flexible translation methods to meet the requirements of the target readers.
